Chiangmai Celadon

Chiangmai Celadon located at Doi Saket, Chiangmai in the northen part of Thailand. This visits is a part of new collection "HAL Collection".

Factory visit

Chiangmai Celadon at Doi Saket Located at 135/4 Moo 6, T. Pa Pong, A. Doi Saket, Chiangmai 50220, producing and distributing Chiang Mai Celadon glazed ceramics under the brand “ChiangMai Celadon” since 2015. But a knowledge and passion for the art of Celadon glazed ceramics of the owner, Tassanee Yaja or Pa Pap is began since 1989.

I have warm welcome to the factory and learning on what they can do and can not do for my future design. Chiangmai Celadon is a unique green color stoneware that glazed with wood ashes, combined with the surface soil collected from rice paddies.

“Presently, an intellectual property patent has been acquired for the production of Celadon, a product that signifies Chiang mai “GI” Celadon, so that when one thinks of Celadon, one naturally will think of Chiangmai. ”

Worker have high aesthetic and artistic on their own way. They can choose color and free hand draw by their own.

On the other hand in an industrial manufacture, a pile of casting mold for making more complex form for ceramics is well made.

Making a model

After first visit, I come up with some concept and develop it with them. Hal is touching and fulfill the need of Chiangmai Celadon. What they need is a product that can present them as GI (Geographical Indication) and Chiangmai.

The paper and clay model in 1:1 scale for check sizing and function.

“Adding on some other materials is challenging for this project because its never happen. Wood lid for container and some light gold give glossy green color more outstanding.”

Prototype

Testing the pattern with their glazing before doing the prototype for the whole collection. The interesting about celadon glaze is we can just carve the pattern and the glaze will coat all the pattern to make inner surface in to darker green.

HAL Collection

HAL Collection talk about form of Chiangmai and pattern from a landscape combine with sense that human can perceive, like hearing the wind, smelling the candle, touching a tray, seeing the color.
